DJI™ S1000 & S900
DJI S900 & S1000 drones are heavy-lift, highly stabilized, remote-controlled UAVs that specialize in professional-grade aerial video and photography. Both are what DJI calls “Spreading Wings” drones. These are folding copters, not fixed-wing aircraft, and the propellers and arms holding the motors fold for convenient transport and space-saving storage. They easily spread open and click into position before flight. The S900 is a hexcopter, with six motors, which requires some non-soldered assembly. The S1000 is an octocopter, with eight motors. Both are powerful video production tools.
The S900 & S1000 have a payload of more than 10 pounds and a wide range of gimbals. These workhorses can carry pro-grade 4K video cameras, including models from Canon and Panasonic. Retracting landing gear on both models stay out of the picture. Standard flight time is 18 minutes with the S900 and 15 minutes with the S1000.
All S900 gimbals provide pro-grade camera stabilization that eliminates shaky video and blurred stills. The S900 is compatible with Zenmuse Z15, GH3, GH4, and BMPCC gimbals. The S1000 can mount those gimbals or any other DJI gimbal, including the Z15-N without the need for landing gear extenders, or the Z15-5D III (HD), which supports the Nikon D-800 or Sony RX-100 cameras.
S900 Remote Controllers
The S900 requires you to add a flight controller system, transmitter and battery. The A2 system is preferable with Futaba FASST and DJI DESST systems, and the WooKong-M system is more widely compatible. An available S900 kit comes with the A2 flight controller system but still requires the addition of a controller and battery.
S1000 Bundles Add Equipment, Save Money
In the DroneNerds.com S1000 bundles above, you’ll find drone packages equipped to meet divergent needs. Some, such as the S1000 Athena and Nemesis custom bundles, include iOSD, which allows video to be displayed not only on a tablet, but also on a computer or monitor. Both bundles include a high-performance gimbal choice.
Athena and Hermes are ready-to-fly and Drone Nerds-tested before delivery, with all firmware and software loaded. You’ll also find packages with either A2 or with WooKong-M flight control. There’s also the Hermes S1000 First Person View system, and systems with Lightbridge 2 HD video transmission.
Gain Convenience with Accessories
Buy the accessories you need, and nothing extraneous. Longer-life S1000 batteries extend flight time, and a 6-cell battery pack reduces ground time. A pelican DJI S1000 carrying case holds the drone and has custom-cut foam that holds up to four batteries and two radios, and a lower compartment for a tablet or monitor.
